Tributes Pour In for Stone Roses & Primal Scream Legend Mani

Fans and fellow musicians across the world are mourning the death of Gary “Mani” Mounfield — the iconic bassist known for shaping the sound of Manchester’s music scene. He passed away at the age of 63, leaving a huge impact on the generations he inspired.

Liam Gallagher was among the first to react, saying he was “in total shock and absolutely devastated… my hero, RIP R Kid.”

The Stone Roses, the band where Mani made his name, shared a heartfelt message:

“RIP our wonderful brother Mani. The greatest bass player and friend we could ever have wished for.”

Frontman Ian Brown also posted a short but emotional tribute, simply writing: “REST IN PEACE MANi X.”

Music legend Paul Weller remembered him as “a true one-off” with a huge personality and even bigger sound.

Mani’s bass lines helped define the Stone Roses’ signature “baggy” groove, and he later spent 15 successful years with Primal Scream after joining in 1996. His reunion with the Stone Roses in 2012 remains a landmark moment for fans.

Richard Ashcroft of The Verve described him as “one of the most positive, warm-hearted musicians you could ever meet,” praising his style, swagger and kindness.
